Donate and Support the Work of the NC Council on the Holocaust

The NC Holocaust Foundation and the Charlotte Jewish Federation sponsor an annual trip of NC teachers to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.

The North Carolina Holocaust Foundation supports the work of the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust in many different ways, such as:

  • Sponsoring a trip for teachers to study at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., each year
  • Purchasing a classroom set of books on the Holocaust for schools
  • Sponsoring speaking events for schools
  • Purchasing and repairing traveling exhibits that are presented at schools
  • Sponsoring teacher in-person and webinar professional development events
  • Enhancing regional libraries with comprehensive Holocaust educational materials
  • Sponsoring teacher trips to study in Poland at historical Jewish ghettos and Nazi death camps
  • Presenting an annual state Holocaust observance
Extensive curriculum resources, such as this text set, written for tenth grade students for Rena’s Promise, the story of a Holocaust survivor who settled in North Carolina, were developed by the NC Council on the Holocaust curriculum team.

Our past accomplishments include:

  • Developing a comprehensive curriculum for grades 6-12 in Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Sponsoring a resolution by the North Carolina General Assembly commemorating the U.S. Army’s liberation of Dachau
  • Sponsoring the Gizella Abramsson Holocaust Education Act to fund the development of Holocaust curriculum for grades 6-12 and a semester-long Holocaust elective
  • Reaching over four million public school students and over 25,000 public school teachers in Holocaust education outreach since the creation of the  NC Council on the Holocaust in 1981.

Vision and Mission of the North Carolina Holocaust Foundation

The vision of the North Carolina Holocaust Foundation is to ensure the permanence of Holocaust memory, understanding, and relevance by teaching the values of diversity, democracy, pluralism, and inclusion to the community.

The North Carolina Holocaust Foundation remains focused squarely on antisemitism and the systematic genocide of Europe’s Jews while sounding a warning about the dangers of dehumanization, injustice, and the moral cost of being a bystander.

Our mission is to educate the community and public school teachers and students about the facts and the lessons learned from the Holocaust, to educate against antisemitism, pro-Nazi sentiment, racism, and bigotry in North Carolina communities and in public schools, and to confront antisemitism and the misconceptions and ignorance about the Holocaust, Jews, and Judaism.

The North Carolina Holocaust Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory of Holocaust victims and survivors while educating current and future generations about the dangers of unchecked hatred and prejudice. This educational mission transcends political boundaries and serves all North Carolina students regardless of their families’ political affiliations. We educate students and adults alike on the lessons that the Holocaust teaches us.

Through our educational resources, curriculum, programs, exhibits, plays, speakers, webinars, books, and workshops, we inspire future generations to help build a world anchored in justice and responsibility.  The importance of supporting and expanding Holocaust education cannot be overstated. As incidents of antisemitism rise, we must foster understanding and tolerance through education. By learning about the Holocaust, students gain historical knowledge and develop an understanding of the dangers of hatred and bigotry.

We urge you to consider donating to the North Carolina Holocaust Foundation. Enhancing our educational efforts will help build a more informed, compassionate, and resilient society. Your support of the North Carolina Holocaust Foundation will be an investment in the future of our children and the values we hold dear.

NC teachers at a workshop participate in hands-on lessons to teach about the Holocaust

Whenever we ask a survivor or liberator what we can do to honor them, they all say, “Teach the children–NEVER AGAIN!”
